The Toronto Blue Jays fell 2-1 to the New York Mets in Sunday afternoon action at Citi Field. The Mets swept the Blue Jays, who fall back to 500 after a strong start to the season.
Bowden Francis made his second start of the season for the Jays and David Peterson got the ball for New York.
Francis pitched decently, going 5.1 innings, giving up six hits and two runs, while striking out six and walking two. However, the base on balls were his undoing as both walks came around to score in the third inning.
Peterson appeared to injure himself part way through the fifth inning. After Tyler Heineman doubled and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. walked, Peterson winced after throwing a pitch. After being visited by manager Carlos Mendoza and the Mets training staff, he stayed in the game, only to walk Anthony Santander and hit Andres Gimenez to allow a run to score.
Mets closer Edwin Diaz hit both Alan Roden and Bo Bichette in the ninth inning but was able to get out of it to preserve the save for the Mets.
Chad Green pitched a scoreless 1.2 innings and Brendon Little had a clean eighth as the Blue Jays pitchers continue to hold up the team.
It was a tough weekend for the Blue Jays as they only mustered one run in three games against a strong Mets team and didn't hit a single home run.
The Blue Jays will visit Fenway Park on Monday to begin a three game series against the Boston Red Sox. Jose Berrios will be opposed by Richard Fitts. First pitch is scheduled for 6:45PM ET.
