The Toronto Blue Jays fell 8-3 to the Los Angeles Angels in Tuesday night action in Anaheim. With the loss, the Blue Jays are now 16-19 on the season.
The Blue Jays actually had the lead twice, but for the second game in a row, the bullpen blew the lead late, giving up six runs in the eighth inning.
Jose Urena was strong in his Blue Jays debut. After giving up a two run home run to Taylor Ward in the first inning, he was solid the rest of the way, ultimately pitching 4.1 innings with four hits, two strikeouts, and a walk.
George Springer opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the first inning to put the Jays up 2-0. After Ward tied it up, both teams were held off the board until the 8th inning. Anthony Santander then hit his 5th shot of the year to give Toronto a 3-2 lead.
Then the wheels came off.
After Chad Green, Mason Fluharty, and Dillon Tate kept the game tied, Yimi Garcia gave up three runs in the eighth inning and only got one out. After not giving up a run in his first 14 outings, Garcia has now allowed seven runs in his most recent two appearances.
Jeff Hoffman came on in relief and was touched up for three runs on two homers. They were also the first runs Hoffman had given up all season.
Eric Lauer then came on and got the final out of the eighth inning.
But the damage was done.
The Blue Jays and Angels continue their series on Wednesday. José Berrios takes on former rotation mate Yusei Kikuchi. First pitch is scheduled for 9:38PM ET.
