Is John Schneider on the chopping block?

Baseball had its first managerial change of the 2025 season when the Pittsburgh Pirates parted ways with Derek Shelton. Now, many fans and analysts think Toronto Blue Jays skipper John Schneider could be next.
After missing the playoffs last year, fan skepticism is at an all-time high and, even with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. locked up for the next decade-and-a-half, many are of the opinion that this team is not where it needs to be.
While the Blue Jays are off to a middling 17-20 start, thanks in large part to a relatively anemic offence and an overworked, putting the blame solely on Schneider is not necessarily fair.
While some offseason additions - most notably closer Jeff Hoffman - got off to scorching starts, others, such as Anthony Santander and Andres Gimenez haven't exactly lived up to the hype. Injuries have also taken their toll.
Still, when teams struggle, the manager is often the one to take the fall. While Schneider's overall winning percentage is .520., he is often criticized for his bullpen management, use of analytics, and for being a front office pushover.
The Blue Jays also haven't won a single playoff game under Schneider's tenure, getting swept in both the 2022 and 2023 Wild Card Series.
While there will no doubt be other managerial changes during the season, it doesn't necessarily mean that Schneider will be next. His fate is more likely to that of General Manager Ross Atkins, who is also on an expiring contract.
Nevertheless, if the team doesn't do well, the Blue Jays could have someone else in charge by 2026. It's all about winning.
