If you watched yesterday Blue Jays game against the Red Sox, you may have noticed some new, younger faces in the dugout.
Meet Gunner and Grayson Schneider, sons of Blue Jays manager John Schneiderand unofficial assistant managers of Spring Training.
The boys are his biggest critics.
The Schneider boys have been fixtures at the ballpark ever since their dad took over managing the team in 2022 and are often playing pick-up baseball in the dugout tunnel after a game.
Sometimes the kids will take part in drills or take a turn in the batting cage, perhaps preparing for their own careers 15-20 years down the line.
For Schneider and his wife Jessy, having the boys experience these moments is something they take great stock in.
It's really cool. Grayson, he's 6, and I set that as a Schneider cutoff date to get around the field. They're really at the point where they understand the game and understand what I do for a living. They get to know the players, too. For both of them, Grayson and Gunner, it's good to have them go through this with me, and it's something that I don't take for granted.
The boys are close with a number of players are Gunner in particular was upset with the Blue Jays traded longtime catcher Danny Jansen, whom he FaceTimes occasionally.
They're getting involved in other ways too. Prior to Thursday's game, Gunner was seen handing out the lineup cards.
And while he hasn't yet been ejected from his dad, we'll see how far the internship takes him.
