The Toronto Blue Jays' first game of the 2025 Major League Baseball season is now only one week away. While the season technically started with the Tokyo Series between the Dodgers and Cubs this week, for all intents and purposes, 2025 begins next week.
While at the start of Spring things were mostly settled for the Blue Jays, the past few days have brought about a few more unanswered questions. From Day 1 the biggest unknown around camp was whether or not Daulton Varsho was going to ready and fully healed.
While John Schneider and the Blue Jays still don't have their answer, they are now stuck with another one. Will Max Scherzer? After cruising through his first three Grapefruit League starts, the future Hall-of-Famer's right thumb has flared up again, putting his opening day status in doubt.
If Mad Max goes down, who becomes the fifth starter? Yariel Rodriguez? Ryan Yarbrough? Jake Bloss? Eric Lauer? Someone else?
What about the rest of the roster? Will it be Addison Barger AND Davis Schneider? Nathan Lukes, Joey Loperfido, or Myles Straw? Can the Jays afford to send Alan Roden back down to Triple-A?
These are the questions that linger.
For reporters, they have their own queries . For
Keegan Matheson, it's whether or not the Blue Jays will win the Golden Grapefruit. Julia Kreuz wonders if Keegan is okay.
It's this kind of camaraderie that makes the Blue Jays such a special organization, to both work for and follow. With camaraderie comes excitement, with excitement comes hope. And it doesn't hurt that the Blue Jays have been playing well.
