Manager John Schneider announced that
Max Scherzer will start Game 3 on Monday, while
Shane Bieber will get the ball for Game 4 on Tuesday.
John Schneider says Max Scherzer and Shane Bieber will start Games 3 & 4 for the Blue Jays
This is a slight change from their LCS series against the Seattle Mariners; Schneider decided to flip the order of the Cy Young Winners presumably to give Bieber an extra day of rest.
Bieber started Games 3 and 7 while Scherzer started Game 4.
Scherzer, who pitched for the Dodgers in 2021, also has more experience taking the mound at Chavez Ravine.
While Mad Max's lone season with the Blue Jays has been up-and-down, he seems to take it into another gear during the postseason.
In four previous World Series appearances, the future Hall of Famer has gone 1-0 with a 3.26 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 19.1 innings.
Health primary concern for starting Bieber game 4
In pushing Bieber back a game, manager John Schneider said that given Bieber's recovery from Tommy John surgery and his
limited starts this year they just wanted to be overly cautious.
Looking at Shane, (we) wanted to give him an extra day. What he has done coming off Tommy John 18 months later, I think, is probably best-case scenario in terms of what he's been doing and how he's recovering.
Scherzer has also batted injuries this year, spending over two months on the IL while dealing with a thumb issue. However, that appears to be behind him.
First pitch for Game 3 is scheduled for 8:00pm ET.
