The Athletics announced this afternoon that they have claimed pitcher Angel Perdomo off of waivers from the Angels. In a corresponding move, Estuary Ruiz was designated for assignment.

Now 31, Perdomo was initially signed by the Toronto Blue Jays as an international free agent back in 2012, although he didn't end making his major league debut until the pandemic-shortened 2020 season as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers
He struggled across two seasons with the Brewers, compiling an 8.24 ERA and 6.43 FIP in 19.2 innings across 22 games.
After spending all of 2022 in the Tampa Bay Rays minor league system, he re-surfaced with the Pirates in 2023 and had a decent year going 3-2 with a 3.74 ERA with 44 strikeouts across 29 innings in 30 games. However Tommy John surgery kept him out for all of 2024 and he was outrighted by the club in November.
He then found himself on a bit of a merry-go-round being claimed by the Braves and then the Angels before ending up with the Athletics.
Perdomo did have a decent spring however, as he impressed with a 1.80 ERA but walked (6) nearly as many batters as he struck out (8). If he pitches as well as he did for Pittsburgh, however, Perdomo could wind up being a solid complement to Mason Miller from the left hand side in the late innings.
Control has always been an issue for Perdomo but if he can locate his pitches more, he has the ability to find success and be a valuable left-option out of the bullpen.
