The Pittsburgh Pirates announced that outfielder Joshua Palacios has cleared waivers and has been outrighted, along with right Peter Strzelecki, to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Palacios has a previous outright in his career and could reject the assignment if he so chooses. There has been no indication that he has done that.
Palacios was originally a fourth-round pick of the Toronto Blue Jays in 2016 and made his major league debut with the club in 2021. He had minimal success in 13 games for the club before claimed off waivers by the Washington Nationals.
He appeared in 49 games for the Nats before being outrighted off their roster. He joined the Pirates the following season after he was selected in minor league phase of the Rule 5 draft.
He finally got an everyday shot with Pittsburgh in 2023, a season in which he appeared in 91 games and hit 10 home runs. He also showed off his defensive versatility with his ability to play all three outfield spots.
However his .239/.279/.413 slash line left more to be desired.
He didn't get as much of an opportunity with the Pirates in 2024, appearing in just 23 games at the major league level. He was cut just prior to opening day in favour of outfielder Jack Suwinski
Palacios is the older brother of Tamp Bay Rays outfielder/second baseman Richie Palacios. The younger Palacios has also appeared in games for the Cardinals and Guardians.
If Palacios chooses to reject assignment, he would immediately become a free agent.
