Seattle and Lawrence clearly enjoy each other's company. If and when Lawrence returns to the majors, it will be his fourth stint with the Mariners in 2025 alone. It's his third season overall with Seattle, but the first in which he went through the DFA process.
The first two times he was DFA'd he passed through waivers unclaimed and he ultimately re-signed with the Mariners. The most recent time however, the Blue Jays put in a claim. He ultimately only appeared in a single game, in his third stint with the team.
Lawrence made his major league debut with Toronto back in 2017 and also pitched for them in 2022. In his lone appearance with the Jays this season, he gave up three runs in 2.2 innings and was DFA'd to make room for a fresh bullpen arm.
Despite making his debut in 2017, Lawrence only has 64 games and 136.2 innings of major league experience. This also may not be last same he will be DFA'd by the Mariners this season. If and when he is next selected to the major league roster, he is out of options so will have to be DFA'd and pass through waivers once again.
It's a situation and a relationship that clearly works for both Seattle and Lawrence, who obviously is at peace with his career and his current role on the Mariners roster.
It's possible that Blue Jays fans could see Lawrence again very soon, The Blue Jays begin a three game series against the Mariners in Seattle on Friday; one that is sure to see the usual flock of west coast Blue Jays fans making their way across the border, though the crowds could be less than in years past.
