Some key members of the Blue Jays are closer to returning, others, not so much. For some, an injury required a couple days of rest, while other injuries involve specialists. Then sometimes personal lives get in the way as your wife goes into labour. These are all issues affecting the Blue Jays at the moment.
First off:
Max Scherzer. The future Hall of Famer is still dealing with a sore thumb and it doesn't appear to be getting any better. He threw both today and yesterday but is clearly in some discomfort and not where he wants to be.
While it also hasn't necessarily gotten worse, Scherzer is still in pain and is set to another - different hand specialist. There is still no timeline for his return.
The Blue Jays right fielder remains out of the lineup as deals with some mild wrist inflammation. He had an MRI done upon the team's return to Toronto, which came back negative. The Blue Jays don't consider it serious at the moment and Springer is still considered day-to-day.
The Blue Jays have an off day tomorrow, which will help, and Springer could theoretically be back in there by Friday. However, if doesn't get better in the next few days, an IL stint might be necessary.
Lukes was placed on the paternity list in advance of Tuesday's game as his wife was going into labour. According to an update from Keegan Matheson, baby Lukes has arrived and Nathan is set to re-join the team on Friday,
Congratulations also go out to Daulton Varsho. His wife is also expecting and the baby is due today. Once the bundle of joy arrives, Varsho will ramp up his rehab in an aim to return by the end of next week.
