The Los Angeles Dodgers have re-signed Teoscar Hernandez
Dominican reporter Yancen Pujols first reported that the sides were finalizing a deal at those terms, while Chris Cotillo of MassLive confirmed there was an agreement in place.
ESPN's Jeff Passan reports that the deal contains a little more than $23MM in deferrals, as well as a $23MM signing bonus. Passan adds that there's an option for a fourth season valued at $15MM.
Before coming to Los Angeles,
Hernandez was one of the more consistent outfielders in baseball after not getting full-time at-bats until his age-25 season. Among the 125 hitters with at least 2,500 plate appearances since 2018, Hernández ranks 17th in home runs, 21st in RBIs and 40th in OPS+.
Hernandez got in the fun of announcing his deal, posting on his Instagram story, "I'm back," with a blue heart.
In 154 games last year, Hernandez batted .272 with a career-high 33 home runs while driving in 99 runs. He also had a career-best 4.3 bWAR.
Since 2019, the slugger ranks within the top 15 league-wide in home runs (158) and RBIs (484).
The former Blue Jay, 32, joined the Dodgers on a one-year deal last off-season, where he earned his second All-Star nod, won the Home Run Derby and won the World Series.
Time and time again he connot lock up what this club needs to improve this off season.
I know Blue Jays fans are wondering.
