It may be April, but that doesn't mean we can't talk about impending free agents. In fact, the folks over at MLB Trade Rumours have released an updated Free Agent Power Ranking list for April and a familiar name for Blue Jays fans is near the top of the list.
No, it's not
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Since the first baseman signed a $500MM extension, he is no longer eligible to be listed. Rather,
Bo Bichette is now the one to watch.
MLB Trade Rumours describes their list as follows:
our rankings are not necessarily a ranking of who the «best» players are in free agency. Rather, we sort our lists by perceived earning power.
Bo's stock dropped after an injury-plagued 2024 season, appearing in only 81 games. However, he has started 2025 off strong, garnering 23 hits in a league-leading 78 at-bats, for a .295 average, which is slightly above his career average of .290.
Defence has always been the weaker part of Bichette's game, though that aspect has been strong two weeks into the 2025 season. Nonetheless, he is still more than capable of handling the position and is still just 27 years old.
While Bo won't garner anywhere near the $500M afforded to his long-time teammate and best friend Vladdy, many projections have the two-time All-Star earning north of $200MM.
Hopefully, it will be with the Blue Jays.
