A great thing happened for the Blue Jays at their complex in Dunediin on Friday. Alek Manoah threw off a mound.
At just after 10am on Friday morning, Manoah gripped a baseball and threw for the first time since undergoing hybrid Tommy John surgery on June 27th, 2024.
According to Blue Jays insider Keegan Matheson it was a whirlwind of emotion., He noted that while Manoah had been playing catch for a couple of days, he had been counting down the days until he could throw off a mound again. He also said that this was the happiest he had seen Manoah in a while.

While Manoah still isn't expected to be in a big league uniform until at least July, these has to be a positive development.
The Blue Jays also got relatively good news regarding relief pitcher Erik Swanson, who underwent an MRI on Thursday.
While Swanson has been diagnosed with a "median nerve entrapment", the MRI showed structural damage. He received a cortisone shot and will refrain from throwing for a couple of days. Blue Jays While he will still most likely begin the season on the IL, all things considered, this is a positive development for both Swanson and the Blue Jays.
The exact timeline for Swanson's return is still unknown at this point, but the Blue Jays have likely avoided something more serious with one of their key bullpen pieces.
