Former Blue Jay re-ups with Braves

In what could be classified as the most predictable move of the young baseball season so far, pitcher RHP Jesse Chavez has re-signed with the Atlanta Braves on a minor league contract.
The move comes after Chavez was DFA'd by the club to make room for Zach Thompson. This is now the fifth time he has re-signed with Atlanta since 2021.
A veteran in his 18th major league season, the 41 year old has bounced around plenty in his career, suiting up for 10 different teams. In recent years however, he has ended up back in a Braves uniform.
Chavez was called up in earlier in the week and pitched two innings and threw 41 pitches in his lone appearance. As that would have put him out of action for a couple of days, the Braves chose to DFA him to create a roster spot. In what was an expected move, he rejected an outright assignment in order to elect free agency and re-sign a new contract with the team.
In addition to his many stints for the Braves, he also played for the
Blue Jays on two separate occasions and hold the record as the most traded player in MLB history. He has been traded 11 times throughout his career. His most recent trade was from the Braves to the
Angels in August of 2022.
Despite being one of the oldest players in the league, Chavez has proven to be effective in recent years, with a 2.93 ERA and 203 innings since the 2021 season.
It's highly possible - and even likely - that Chavez will pitch in the majors again this season. But as he is out of options, he release and re-sign could be a recurring theme throughout the year.
